I’m just hearing about this…. I would like to see the original post that he is defending, but his blog is gone. Probably damage control, but looks to me like he just “couched” a little bit of his “person-hood.”

I think it’s disingenuous — at best — to say that “peace, love, and little donuts” is not a misleading name. Maybe the donuts were little, but the owner chose a catchphrase, and arguably a location, designed to capture the attention of a liberal, “hippy” clientele. It seems to me a signal of likemindedness, which clearly could not be further from the truth.

“I have been kind and respectful of everyone who has come into my shop.” Well, of course he has been! He’s not a dumb businessman. But it’s one thing to be good at customer service, and another thing to have something in the public sphere (the hateful post about President Obama’s inauguration and his “followers”) that makes former and potential clients wonder what he is saying or would say behind their backs.

It’s his right to say (and write about) and believe whatever he wants. It is my right to not patronize his store — for whatever reason. It is, unfortunately for him, also my right to share my opinion with people I know — people who may be interested to learn that a business is misrepresenting itself. And they are free, also, to shop wherever they feel comfortable for whatever reason.

He’s been burned, and he’s probably learned something about social media. I do wonder if he’ll change the name to something else though.

I’m with Tan dude. I’ve been in a couple of times and while I found the place odd, it seemed harmless enough. But in light of all this its safe to say I’ve eaten my last mediocre, small donut.

I’m glad you posted this – I didn’t notice that he had a new entry up until it was gone. I love how he is accusing those offended by his bigotry of not being accepting, right there on the heels of a blog post which announces that he doesn’t himself accept several different groups of people.

I coulnd’t care less if he “endorses” my viewpoint or lifestyle – and if he can’t see that THAT is not why people are pissed off, then he’s even more ignorant than I thought. Most of us support that people have different opinion, but he expressed his in a hateful way, starting off with a racist comment about the “tannest” president, then questioning his race, moved on to attack gays, then accused anyone who voted for Obama of being not just “dilusional” and uneducated, but morally bankrupt.

The fact that he can’t see his own hate and hypocrisy is what’s “ironic”, no the fact that the rest of us refuse to accept it.
